What Does a C-8 License Cover?

Forms, pours, places, finishes, and installs specified mass, pavement, flat and other concrete work, and places and sets screeds for pavements or flatwork.

Does not include application of plaster coatings or placing and erecting steel reinforcing bars.

Hiring tip

Concrete work requires proper permits for foundations, retaining walls, and structural slabs. Ask about soil testing, reinforcement specifications, and cure times. Weather conditions affect concrete work, so discuss scheduling contingencies upfront.

A California contractor license is generally required when a project costs $1,000 or more in combined labor and materials, requires a building permit, or uses additional workers. Small jobs cannot be split from a larger project to qualify for the exemption. Read the CSLB requirements.
