What Does a HAZ License Cover?

An add-on certification for removal of hazardous substances. Only issued to contractors holding A, B, C-12, C-21, C-36, C-57, or C-61/D-40 licenses.

Hiring tip

Before hiring, verify the contractor's license is active and that they carry current workers' compensation insurance and a contractor bond. California law requires a written contract for home improvement projects over $500. Get at least three written estimates and check references before making a decision.

A California contractor license is generally required when a project costs $1,000 or more in combined labor and materials, requires a building permit, or uses additional workers. Small jobs cannot be split from a larger project to qualify for the exemption. Read the CSLB requirements.
