What Does a C-13 License Cover?

Constructs, erects, alters, or repairs all types of fences, corrals, runs, railings, game court enclosures, guard rails, barriers, playground equipment, backstops, posts, flagpoles, and gates.

Does not include masonry walls (see C-29).

Hiring tip

Fencing projects may require permits depending on height and location. Confirm property lines before installation to avoid encroachment disputes. Ask about material warranties and whether the price includes removal of the old fence.

A California contractor license is generally required when a project costs $1,000 or more in combined labor and materials, requires a building permit, or uses additional workers. Small jobs cannot be split from a larger project to qualify for the exemption. Read the CSLB requirements.
