What Does a C-10 License Cover?

Places, installs, erects, or connects electrical wires, fixtures, appliances, apparatus, raceways, conduits, solar photovoltaic cells, or any part thereof which generate, transmit, transform, or utilize electrical energy.

Electricians working under a C-10 must be certified per CA Labor Code.

Hiring tip

Electrical work in California requires a permit for most projects beyond simple fixture replacements. Verify the contractor pulls permits and that all work will be inspected. Ask whether their electricians hold current state certification as required by California Labor Code.

A California contractor license is generally required when a project costs $1,000 or more in combined labor and materials, requires a building permit, or uses additional workers. Small jobs cannot be split from a larger project to qualify for the exemption. Read the CSLB requirements.
